About Hemlock Morris
Hemlock Morris are a mixed (male and female) morris side, based in Bedford, Bedfordshire, UK. We dance a variety of dances from the Cotswold and Border styles of morris, from old, traditional dances collected over 100 years ago to contemporary dances written in the last 10 years. Our Cotswold repertoire typically includes dances from Adderbury, Bledington, Moulton, Eynsham, Fieldtown, Bampton and others. We also have dances we have learned from Border sides such as Boggart’s Breakfast, Plum Jerkum, Armaleggan and Wytchwood, as well as public domain Border dances from Upton-upon-Severn and Pershore.
Our intention is to continue and develop the traditions within morris dancing, enrich our community, dance to the best of our ability and - most of all - have fun.
Hemlock often draw a good crowd with our dancing, as we look quite different from most people’s perception of morris dancing - we are more likely to be seen wearing corsets, rag coats and feathers than crisp white shirts and breeches! We like to wear colourful face paints in a mixture of patterns, usually featuring our trademark black, green and purple colours.
We dance at a variety of different events, including charity events, village fetes, festivals, private events and community events. If you are interested in booking Hemlock Morris to perform at an event you are involved with, please see our Contact Information page for details on how to get in touch!

Inclusivity and Diversity
Hemlock Morris aim to be inclusive and welcoming to all people, regardless of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age or anything else that is utterly irrelevant to a person's ability to fit into our group. It saddens us to have the need for this statement, but we strongly reject any ties to nationalism and any other exclusionary ideologies. We would never intentionally exclude or disadvantage anyone based on any of the characteristics mentioned - we are all human beings and we should be able to call out racism, sexism, homophobia and other forms of bigotry wherever we see them.
If you have any constructive criticisms or suggestions as to how we can improve our diversity and inclusivity even further, please do feel that you can contact us. Our contact details are in the 'Contact' menu tab at the top of our website.
We fully stand by the Joint Morris Organisations' (JMO) response to this gross misrepresentation of morris dancing, the statement for which can be found at the link below.
